SUVs are ideal for getting around the Finger Lakes and the Southern Tier. The Volkswagen Tiguan and the Honda CR-V are two great examples. They both include lots of cargo room and safety features. Which one is right for you, though? To help drivers in Ithaca, Elmira, and Cortland, NY, decide, the team at Maguire Volkswagen looks at what each one has to offer in this 2020 VW Tiguan vs. Honda CR-V comparison.

Specs & Capability

The 2020 VW Tiguan delivers traction and stability when you need it most. The available 4MOTION® all-wheel drive with Active Control lets you adjust the drivetrain to better adapt to your driving conditions. It includes selectable driving modes, such as On-Road, Off-Road, and Snow.

Under the hood, you'll find a 2.0L TSI® 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that gets up to 221 lb-ft of torque. To manage this versatile powertrain, you'll have an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Honda CR-V also offers all-wheel drive, but it doesn't include driving modes that can help you get better traction. Its 1.5L 4-cylinder engine only offers 179 lb-ft of torque and works with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

Passenger Room

The VW Tiguan is available with two or three rows of seats. The extra seats give the interior space for up to seven people. They can also conveniently fold flat into the floor when they're not in use. On the other hand, the Honda CR-V is only available with two rows of seats and space for five people.

Infotainment System

In addition to offering extra space, the interior of the VW Tiguan is loaded with technology. It starts with a sleek touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. A 6.5-inch screen comes standard, but an 8-inch screen is also available.

Both options include Bluetooth®, Apple CarPlay®, and Android Auto™. That gives you the freedom to sync your smartphone apps, stream music, and safely make hands-free calls. Plus, you can connect to streaming services, social media, and your email using the standard Volkswagen Car-Net® Hotspot.

There's also a high-tech instrument cluster. The available Volkswagen Digital Cockpit offers both a classic instrument panel view and full-screen navigation mode. It's also customizable and capable of saving up to four driver profiles, so you'll always get to see the information you're looking for.

The 2020 Honda CR-V offers a touchscreen as well as Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Unfortunately, none of those features comes standard until the higher trim levels. The base trim only includes Bluetooth® and a 5-inch LCD monitor.

Its Driver Information Interface also offers lots of information on the instrument cluster. However, it can't switch over to a full-screen navigation display like the VW Digital Cockpit can.
